Adult Healthy Living Skills Programs helps parents and seniors to plan and prepare healthy meals on a limited budget. Our six-session series helps participants to gain skills related to meal planning, food resource management, food safety and active lifestyles. A healthy dish is prepared and sampled at most sessions. Menu ideas are economical, delicious, and easy-to-prepare, featuring fruits, vegetables, whole grains and low fat protein sources. Small group sessions are offered day or evening and feature a dialogue approach to learning. This is an Eat Smart New York! Program that is available FREE to adults who meet the limited income eligibility requirements. Youth programs are targeted to schools with 50% or higher student enrollment in free/reduced meal programs.Contact Kathy Dischner at (315) 424-9485 x 239 or kmd13@cornell.edu for class information & scheduling. Boys & Girls Clubs of Syracuse encourages our youth to eat healthy, live healthy lives, and be active. We provide nutritious meals to our members on a daily basis through the FoodBank of Central New York. We also have nutritionists come in to run programs with our youth to teach them healthy eating habits. In addition, we employ SMART (Skills Mastery and Resistance Training) programs, which teach youth about healthy lifestyles. The Clubs also have organized sports such as football and basketball games, jump-rope and jumping jacks contests, as well as free-play and outdoor play times.
